It's President's Day weekend, which means a solemn celebration of two great Americans new car deals from coast to coast! Mattress blowouts too, but those are covered elsewhere. We're not entirely sure how Washington and Lincoln got associated with the war on high prices, but many car dealers use President's Day weekend to launch their first incentive programs of the year.

American taxi celebrates its 100th at the New York Motor Show
The US taxi celebrates its centenary at New York this week with a display of the ‘green’ yellow cabs of tomorrow. The rank gathered by The Design Trust for Public Space for its Taxi ’07 display include a lithium-battery powered taxi from Hybrid Technologies, and the world’s fastest taxi. This hydrogen-burning 1000hp Crown Victoria has a projected top speed of 200mph, for Wall Street traders who really can't hang around.

What’s new on Chevrolet’s Geneva Motor Show stand? There were more exciting show stands at Geneva but Chevy did muster up a small – in every sense – global unveil in the shape of the three-door Aveo supermini (the five-door was unveiled last autumn at the 2007 Frankfurt show). The smart-ish new exterior – all big grille and wraparound front lights – is a big improvement on the mundane Kalos it replaces but still a bit of a let down.
